Belle Passes

Inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), the illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral, Belle is left to wonder if she will every find love. Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle’s lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the color of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing. Belle falls for an idealistic young vicar’s son bent on change who, with her help, shapes Lord Mansfield’s role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.

MSQ will host a screening of Belle on Monday, May 19 at 7:30pm at the AMC Waterfront 22. For your chance at two tickets, please comment below with your favorite royalty movie. I’ll start with mine: Richie Rich (1994). Granted little Richie Rich didn’t sit on a throne or hold a title, but he did live in a huge castle. I think that counts for something! Black Knight (2001) comes in a close second place. The movie is hilarious and a different type of project for my favorite funny guy, Martin Lawrence.

This contest closes Friday, May 16th at 5:00 PM. Any comments posted after that time will not be considered. Thank you!

Much Love,

Movie Scene Queen

  1. My favorite all time Royalty Movie of the year is the 1988 comedy classic “Coming to America” starring and created by Eddie Murphy. Pampered African Prince Akeem, who’s against arranged marriages, heads to America to find his bride and he’s given 40 days to roam the U.S with is faithful retainer Semmi (Arsenio Hall) to make sure nothing happens. Prince Akeem conceals his true identity and gets a “Joe job” at a fast-food restaurant.

  2. The Princess and the Frog is one of my favorite royalty movies. I love that my girls get to see a girl of color in a leading role. Very inspirational!

  3. Man in the Iron Mask about a prisoner kept in the Bastille in Paris who was rumored to be the twin brother of King Louis XIV – he was kept prisoner to prevent him from taking over the throne.

  4. The Princess and the Frog, thanks to my granddaughter I have seen it over and over I love it. Marty Hasis

  5. My favorite royalty movie was The King’s Speech. The acting was supurb and the historical perspective was accurate. The movie was engaging and I was able to “relive the period.”

  6. My favorite royalty move is The Other Boleyn Sister. I can watch that movie over and over again.

  7. The Princess and the Frog. It showed my daughter’s that they were little Princesses!

  8. My daughter and I have to go with Twitches 1 and Twitches 2 as our number 2. 🙂

  9. ALADDIN!! …Just kidding (even though he’s the most awesome wish born prince EVER) I’d have to say Elizabeth or Desiree. (And hopefully Belle!) 🙂

  10. My favorite royalty movie is History of the World: Part I Because “It’s good to be king”

    =)

  11. First Knight with Richard Gere and Sean Connery. Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, Kevin Costner and again Sean Connery as the king. Frozen is pretty good too!!!

  12. Definitely has to be Kiera Knightly in “The Duchess” that movie was out of this world and exploited issues that are still very much alive today! My mouth was wide open on some of those scenes.
