Merecedes J. Williams is Owner and Chief Film Critic of Movie Scene Queen™

With over a decade of journalism experience and an inquisitive love for movies, Merecedes J. Williams created a blog in 2013. Originally Pittsburgh Movie Scene Queen, when the blog started to quickly flourish, it was time to drop the “Pittsburgh” and add amenities to the company.  

In its tenth year, Movie Scene Queen™ is a multi-dimensional entertainment company that provides marketing and promotion, event planning and coverage, photography, and free movie screenings to families, schools, organizations, and groups. In addition to movie screenings, Owner and Chief Film Critic Merecedes J. Williams is an award-winning writer, social media strategists, and philanthropist. Through MSQ, the Single Parent Project was birthed as community service branch to service single parent, incarcerated parent, and foster families.

More about Merecedes J. Williams:

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA , Mrs. Williams has spent most of her life committed to Pittsburgh Public Schools, either as a student, parent, and/or dedicated servant. Taking pride in her own students, schools, and community since 2003 and in many different capacities, she has worked in over 20 PPS schools. Currently, Mrs. Williams serves Pittsburgh Public Schools as Director of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement.  She’s also a certified tutor where she specializes in K-6 reading and writing, K-8 math, and Intermediate-level Spanish.

Mrs. Williams was honored by the New Pittsburgh Courier as a member of the Class of 2013’s Fab 40 under 40, an elite group of young professionals who have excelled in their work forces. WHIRL Magazine inducted Merecedes and Movie Scene Queen in the 2016 Women in Business Class. The Pittsburgh Magazine named her 40 Under 40 for her work in community service through Movie Scene Queen in 2019. In 2020, Movie Scene Queen earned Pennsylvania Keystone Press Award-first place for Lifestyle and Entertainment Beat- Division VI.

Movie Scene Queen is the official film critic for the New Pittsburgh Courier. Movie Scene Queen celebrated five years in business in 2018, and Mike Clark and WTAE- ABC Pittsburgh produced a news story about the milestone Movie Scene Queen: Community benefiting from her mission.

Mrs. Williams is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, African American Film Critics Association, Pittsburgh Black Media Federation, and Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh’s Young Professionals, where she serves as Board Secretary. 

Merecedes resides in the East End of Pittsburgh, PA with her husband and three children.
