Toy Story 4 Passes

Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.

‘Spider-Man’ displays diversity, ‘Despicable Me 3’ shows off

Summer is such an exciting time for the cinemas. Not only are the year’s best films released during this season, but the movie theater is the best place to sit back, relax, and beat the heat. I have two family-friendly flicks for you to catch this week: “Despicable Me 3” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

After refusing to go back to a life of crime, the yellow cuddly minions desert their fearless leader, Gru (Steve Carrell). But, after losing his job and finding his long-lost twin brother, Dru (also Carrell), Gru is tempted to go back to his villainous ways.

“Despicable Me 3” is as cute and funny as its predecessors, “Despicable Me” (2010) and Despicable Me 2” (2013). There are so many random parts of the movie, but it all comes together for a wacky, whimsical animation.

The glue that holds this film series together is Gru. Carrell worked double-time in the third installment with the introduction of the new character. The audience gets twice the amount of clean comedy. Carrell is a comedic genius, and his success with “Despicable Me 3” only confirms his range and brilliance.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie Passes

Based on the worldwide sensation and bestselling book series, and boasting an A-list cast of comedy superstars headed by Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, DreamWorks Animation brings audiences the long-awaited global movie event, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. This raucously subversive comedy for the entire family tells the story of two overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold, who hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.

Movie Scene Queen is hosting a special screening of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie on Saturday, May 27th at 10 AM at AMC Waterfront 22.  Please comment below with your favorite family movie. I have about 3,425 favorite family movies.  But, it’s always a joy to sit around the Christmas tree in December and watch the following movies with my kiddos: “Jingle All the Way” (1996), “The Preacher’s Wife” (1996), “Elf” (2003), and “Burrowed Hearts” (1997).

The Boss Baby Passes

DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby.  He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby.  The Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim.  With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages.

Sing Passes

In theatres December 21, Illumination presents Sing at the holidays. Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Tori Kelly star in an animated feature about finding the shining star that lives inside all of us.

images (2).jpg

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Academy Award® winner Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist—okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel—who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it.  Featuring more than 85 hit songs, Sing is written and directed by Garth Jennings.

The Sing screening is Monday, December 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Southside Works.  If you are interested, please comment below with your favorite animal-friendly animation.

Trolls Passes

In theatres November 4, 2016, Movie Scene Queen has your opportunity to see Trolls!

image0012

From the creators of Shrek comes DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls, a smart, funny, and irreverent comedy about the search for happiness, and just how far some will go to get it. This hilarious film transports audiences to a colorful, wondrous world populated by the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant dance in their step and a song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomachs.

After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly-cautious curmudgeonly Branch (Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Together, this mismatched duo embark on a rescue mission full of adventure and mishaps – trying to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done.

Trolls will be screening in the Waterfront on Saturday, October 29th at 11 AM.  For tickets, please comment below with your favorite DreamWorks movie.  Tickets will be emailed to winners Friday afternoon.
