Dumb and Dumber To Passes

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To. The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

Dumb and Dumber To is showing on Wednesday, November 12th at the Southside Works Cinema, beginning promptly at 7:30 PM.  Please comment below with your favorite moment from the first Dumb and Dumber (1994).  I’ll start with mine– When Lloyd drove the woman to the airport, he dropped her off and began to sing “goodbye my love”.  But then crashed the limo.  Hilarious!

Much Love,

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

anchorman2

Will Ferrell returns as Ron Burgundy in the highly anticipated sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Ron Burgundy and his beautiful news anchor wife, Veronica Corningstone-Burgundy (Christina Applegate) faces divorce after Ron is fired and Veronica is promoted to primetime news anchor. Ron travels across San Diego to reassemble the Channel 4 news team to take over a new 24-hour news channel, Global News Network (GNN).

Led by news executive Linda Jackson (Meagan Good), Ron Burgundy, the gullible weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), the cat loving investigative reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), and racist sportscaster Champ Kind (David Koechner) must redeem themselves on a national news market.

Any movie with Will Ferrell and Steve Carrell is a simple combination for idiotic humor. The movie was everywhere. Although there was a definite plot, the scenes were sporadic and sometimes, did not make sense. The broad, goofy outlook is a testament to the type of work Will Ferrell produces. Anchorman Man 2 is very similar to the other Ferrell movies such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), Blades of Glory (2007), and Stepbrothers (2008).

Meagan Good serves as the token Black woman for the first Anchorman lacked diversity. The only problem is her character was corny and pointless. Linda Jackson’s sole purpose is to provide a great seaway to the epic Black dinner scene. And I am no MAC cosmetic consultant, but I’m certain that her eyebrows were drawn on by an infant. I was afraid. In the 1970s, did women wear their eyebrows like that?

Despite Good’s questionable presence, this movie review could have easily been dedicated to the other numerous, awesome cameos. In the first few second of Anchorman 2, multiplatinum rapper and former Degrassi star, Drake, makes a special appearance that will make you chuckle. Acting is what put Drake on the map and I’ve always wondered why he can’t continue to utilize that craft in addition to rapping. Other memorable cameos include Will Smith, Vince Vaughn, Kanye West, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Liam Neeson, and Jim Carrey.

2013 was a big year for sequels. Earlier in the year, I projected the success of animated sequels but it seems as if all eleven sequels of 2013 made a significant impact on the film industry.

We will have to wait to see if Anchorman 2: the Legend Continues will also have a strong sequel box office opening weekend. Ninja 2 is this year’s last sequel and it will be released on New Year’s Eve.

3 STARS: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is stupid funny! It takes a special person, including myself, to understand the dynamics of Will Ferrell’s senseless comedy.

July Throwback Movie of the Month- Me, Myself & Irene (July 2013)

Jim Carrey and Renée Zellweger star in the comedy about a schizophrenic Rhode Island state trooper who’s battling his spilt personality in the classic Me, Myself and Irene. I call this a USA network movie. USA plays the movies with all the cursing and bleeps out everything, ultimately ruining the essence of the movie. And the later in the night, the nastier the movie is. Then at 7:00 AM they want to play Joel Osteen.

Like most Jim Carrey films, the plot is all over the place but destined for gut busting laughs as he literally battles himself as Officer Charlie Baileygates. Charlie is sweet and caring whereas his spilt personality, Hank, is horny and harsh. After Charlie’s wife left him with three little children, he was forced to store his hurt and anger. Eventually, Hank emerged and he was at times helpful and hurtful on Charlie’s journey to protect an innocent witness.

After Hank’s first appearance, psychologists diagnosed Charlie with “advanced delusionary schizophrenia with involuntary narcissistic rage” and ordered him to take medication every 6 hours to keep Hank away. His first day back on the force he was ordered to transport a New York suspect Irene Waters (Renée Zellweger) back to a NY police station for questioning. Irene got mixed up with her mobster ex-boyfriend and went on the run after several crooked cops tried to kill her.

Any movie has to have a little bit of a love story. Despite Irene’s high tolerance for Hank’s sexual come-ons, she still fell madly in love with Charlie and his 3 Black children.

The 3 Big Black Kids
As if this story line wasn’t already weird, Charlie’s estranged wife left him with 3 Black kids that she had from an affair with the wedding limo driver. Jamal Baileygates (Anthony Anderson), Lee Harvey Baileygates (Mongo Brownlee), and Shonté Jr. Baileygates (Jerod Mixon) were all classified as geniuses but cursed like sailors. It only made for a more enjoyable cinematic experience. The movie shows as the minors turn into men. In the end, Charlie’s kids help prove his innocence by stalling the man hunt and rescuing their dad from raging waters.

3 STARS: From Charlie’s hefty Black kids to Hank’s crazed outbursts with children, Me, Myself, & Irene is hilarious.
