Woman in Gold, which opens April 1st, is the remarkable true story of one woman’s journey to reclaim her heritage and seek justice for what happened to her family. Sixty years after she fled Vienna during World War II, an elderly Jewish woman, Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), starts her journey to retrieve family possessions seized by the Nazis, among them Klimt’s famous painting Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I. Together with her inexperienced but plucky young lawyer Randy Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), she embarks upon a major battle which takes them all the way to the heart of the Austrian establishment and the U.S. Supreme Court, and forces her to confront difficult truths about the past along the way.

The advance screening will be held tomorrow, Monday, March 30 at 7:00PM at the AMC Waterfront 22. Please visit: http://www.gofobo.com/itRIS86281 for passes.

Turbo (7.22.13)

Turbo

When life is moving at a snail’s pace you might just need some “Turbo!”

The younger kids will definitely enjoy DreamWorks newest creation, Turbo. The movie is about a small garden snail’s quest to win Indianapolis 500. Theo aka Turbo (voice by Ryan Reynolds) is tired of being stuck in the tomato garden and always had dreams to branch out and become the fastest snail in the world. After saving his brother, Chet (voice by Paul Giamatti), in a crow eating attempt, Turbo found himself in a place where he was free to race.

Any animated movies with superstar voices like Samuel L. Jackson and Snoop Dogg is a shoe in for great entertainment. The fast snail leader, Whiplash (Jackson), is tough and loud similar to person voicing him. West coast rapper Snoop Dogg voices the coolest snail of the pack, Smoove Move, using his Cali slang. The fast pack also includes the first lady, Burn (voice by Maya Rudolph) Skidmark (voice by Ben Schwartz), whose name says it all, and the largest but active snail, White Shadow (voice by Michael Bell).

In a more realistic context, the movie teaches its audience to dream BIG. There’s no real chance of a snail winning a professional motor race but the moral of the story is anything is possible. Small children will have just another ounce of confidence after watching this snail’s tale.

3.5 STARS: Although the movie is adorable, it had its down moments. Parts of the movie I wondered, “is this necessary?” Hopefully, Turbo can quickly rise to the top of this weekend’s box office.

Despicable Me 2 has held the #1 box office spot for 3 weekends in a row. Let’s see if a new animated movie can pushed them out of the top spot! Also, out this weekend is the Conjuring, which might give all the movies a run for their money. Based on a true story, The Conjuring, set in the early 1970s, is about paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) who help the Perron family figure out unknown spirits and activity in their Harrisville, Rhode Island house.
